Rodolfo's
Transportation Service [Jehovah's witnesses] can provide you with airport
pick up service and meet you as you come out of Customs. Travel time
from airports to Samana range from 3-5 hours, depending upon which
airport, the traffic and
weather conditions. If your flight is delayed, the brothers will wait for
you for as long as it takes.
Airport Pickup:
Santiago International Airport (STI) and Santo Domingo International
Airport (SDQ) are the closest airports to Samana. For location of airports, see
www.TropicalislandBB.com/Maps.htm
There is no airport pick up for flights arriving after 7:30 p.m. However,
our chauffeur will always wait for flights that are scheduled earlier, that
are delayed. For airport return, departing flights must be scheduled no
earlier than eleven o'clock a.m. due to the traveling distance between
Samana' and the airport.
If your flight is scheduled to arrive late at night, and you are coming through Santo Domingo International Airport, you can be picked up the next morning at either the Branch or at a brother and sister's bed & breakfast: "Dinamic Dallas Bed & Breakfast", not far from the branch.
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT INFORMATION
SANTIAGO INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT (STI)
Santiago Airport (STI) is a
lovely new safe international airport.
If you have arrangements for airport pick up to Samaná or Jarabacoa, it
is the best airport to come through. However, if you do not want to
make arrangements for airport pick up, then it would be better to use
Santo Domingo International airport as there are taxis to accessible bus
stations for other parts of the country from Santiago.
SANTO DOMINGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (SDQ)
The Branch is located approximately a half hour from this airport. So would be a good airport to fly in through if you would like to visit the Branch upon arrival or departure. Additional charge of $50 US for airport pick up & return from SDQ to Samana' since it is further away and a toll highway is used.
PUERTO PLATA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
(POP)
This is a nice airport to fly into for towns or cities in this part of
the country. A very scenic ride to Rio San Juan, Nagua, Peninsula of
Samaná. Buses to these locations leave only once a day, approximately 7
o'clock in the morning from Puerto Plata. Airport pick up can be
arranged if needed from POP. For airport pick up & return to Samana
the best airport to come through is the Santiago International Airport (STI).
PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (PUJ)
Punta Cana airport is the farthest away from Samana, approximately 6-8 hours, and costs approximately $300 US for pickup and return (kindly check by e-mail for current rate). If very cheap tickets are obtained through this airport, then it is worth traveling through it and paying the additional cost for airport pickup and return. Since airport is 6-08 hours away, this should be taken into consideration when booking flight times, considering that you have to be at the airport two hours beforehand (one solution is to be chauffeured to Santo Domingo to spend the night and next morning catch the bus to Samana (3½ hour ride to Samana from Santo Domingo).
SAMANA' (EL CATEY)
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (AZS)
See

CHANGING MONEY
At both airports there are banks or counters to
which you may go in order to change your dollars into pesos. The
average conversion rate is between $39 and $40 pesos to the US Dollar. It is good
to change a reasonable amount to cover taxis, buses, meals, and
emergencies on the way to Samana.
RATE OF EXCHANGE (Average) $100 U.S. = $3600-$4000 Dominican Pesos $1.00 U.S. = $39 Dominican Pesos
Try to obtain SMALL bills of $20s, 50s, and
100s if you can because most places do not have change.
